Clare Martin is the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory holding the portfolios of
Asian Relations and Trade, AustralAsia Railway, Indigenous Policy and Major Projects.

On 18 August 2001 Clare led the Australian Labor Party into Government for the first time in Northern Territory history. Four years late, on June18, 2005, she led Labor to a second term with an increased majority.

One of ten children, (born on 15 June 1952), Clare Martin grew up in Sydney, commenced her education at Dominican Convent, Wahroonga and then Loreto Convent, Normanhurst.  She went on to achieve a Bachelor of Arts from Sydney University in 1970-75. 

Clare and her partner David Alderman have two children, Jake and Chloe.

Belinda joined APPEA on 18th July 2005 as its Chief Executive. She has come to the industry from A3P, the Australian Plantation Products & Paper Industry Council, where she was the Chief Executive Officer tackling issues such as resource security, energy policy, manufacturing industry policy, trade policy and climate change. Belinda has spent 9 years with the Commonwealth Government including 6 years at senior and senior executive positions within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet responsible for a range of resource, primary industries and environment policy issues. Belinda has also worked in a variety of resource planning roles in State and local governments. She holds three degrees including a Master of Environmental Law from the Australian National University.

James Slutz, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Oil and Natural Gas, U.S. Department of Energy
                                                 




Jim Slutz currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Oil and Natural Gas in the Office of Fossil Energy of the U.S. Department of Energy. In this position, Mr. Slutz is responsible for administering domestic and international oil and gas programs, including research and development, policy analysis, and natural gas import and export licensing. The oil and natural gas office leads DOE's LNG program which involves the analysis of safety and other technical issues.

Prior to his appointment in June 2002, Mr. Slutz served as the Director, Indiana Division of Oil and Gas, with responsibilities for overseeing oil and natural gas exploration and production, natural gas storage, and leasing of state land for exploration. From the period of 1981 to 1992, Mr. Slutz worked for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil and Gas, where he served in various managerial and technical positions.

Mr. Slutz holds an MBA degree from The Ohio State University, Fisher College of Business, and a B.S. degree from The Ohio State University, School of Natural Resources.

Andris has 20 years experience in the international oil and gas industry. He began his career as a petroleum engineer and reservoir engineer with Shell in Holland and the North Sea. He then moved through a number of commercial and business roles with independents working in the UK, US, Caspian Region and South America before moving to Australia in 2000. He now manages business development and commercial activities for Eni Australia and is a Director of Eni Gas & Power LNG Australia B.V.

Christopher Hart commenced his involvement in the upstream oil and gas industry in the late 1980's. Over the past sixteen years he has been actively involved in the industry, serving as both director and executive director for a number of junior companies, including Bass Strait Group NL, Octanex NL, Cue Energy Resources NL and Natural Gas Australia Ltd., and consulting directly to various oil and gas companies including Cue Energy and Boral Energy Ltd.

The primary focus of Mr. Hart's activities is in the area of gas marketing and the identification of the most appropriate mechanism for the commercialisation of various gas resources.

Mr. Hart co-founded Timor Sea Petroleum in 1994 (which has now become MEO Australia Ltd), the original tenement holder of the Evans Shoal gasfield, and he has been instrumental in developing the Company's gas-to-liquids projects.

Over the past nine years, Mr. Hart has been principally involved in formulating and developing the strategies for the commercialisation of regional gasfields in the Timor Sea including the potential gas resources in the Company's permit, NT/P68. This activity primarily related to the development of offshore GTL production concepts, including the Tassie Shoal Methanol Project and the Timor Sea LNG Project.

Nexus Energy's Managing Director Ian Tchacos is a petroleum engineer with over 20 years international experience in a range technical and commercial roles, from exploration and development operations to marketing and energy finance.

Prior to joining Nexus Ian held a number of senior managerial positions in a range of junior and mid sized oil companies key accomplishments include:

  • Building a $250 million asset base with Hardy Petroleum

  • Gas Marketing Representative for Harriet Joint Venture

  • Non Operators representative for Bayu Undan Gas Project

  • Responsible for divestment of Bond Corporations $1.4 billion energy assets

Since Ian's appointment as CEO of Nexus in August 2002, the company has undergone a substantial growth period, securing a quality portfolio of exploration and appraisal assets in the Gippsland, Browse, Bonaparte and Vlaming basins. Ian also finalised the company's recent acquisition of the Echuca Shoals gas discovery.
Under Ian's stewardship Nexus will progress the appraisal and development of the Crux gas condensate field and Longtom gas discovery as well as drilling 5 exploration prospects.
Nexus' strategy is to secure highly prospective exploration acreage at high equity levels with a view to gaining leverage from its technical and commercial skills. Under this strategy Nexus' market capitalisation has grown from A$2 million to a current A$ 137 million in the last 3 years.

Mr.Somchai Sintharapantorn is the Executive Vice President Natural Gas Supply and Trading , Exploration & Production and Gas Business Group, at PTT Public Company Limited (PTT). He graduated with a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University, U.S.A. in 1974 and later joined PTT in 1983 after has worked with ESSO Thailand for 8 years.

Over the past 20 years, Mr.Somchai has worked in various areas in the Petroleum oil & gas Industry at different management positions such as Logistics & Refining, Supply & Trading, Petrochemical Olefins & Aromatics, Corporate Strategy and Planning Group and in the Natural Gas Supply and Trading. Presently, he holds Board of directorship in PTT LNG Co., Ltd. and subsidiary companies related to power and utility business. Mr.Somchai is also a graduate of Stanford University Executive Program in year 2000. He is married with 2 children and he likes golfing.

   

Jim McIlvenny President, Asia Pacific & Greater China The Dow Chemical Company
                                                 




Jim McIlvenny assumed additional responsibility as President of Dow Asia Pacific & Greater China in February, 2006.

McIlvenny, who had been Dow Greater China President since January 2004, broadened his responsibilities to embrace Dow's presence across the whole region, capitalizing on the many synergies that exist across Asia Pacific while ensuring that the Company's focus on Greater China remains just as sharp as it has been these past few years. McIlvenny is based in Shanghai, China.

Prior to being named President of Dow Greater China, he served as Business Vice President of Specialty Polymers, a portfolio of businesses providing a diverse range of products for applications in industries such as paints and coatings, water purification, transportation, construction, pharmaceuticals, and personal care.

McIlvenny joined Dow in Australia in 1982, where he held a number of positions in Chemical and Performance Products in the areas of technical service, sales, marketing, and business leadership. From 1989 to 1998, he was involved in the commercial and business operations for Liquid Separations, beginning in Tokyo as the Business Manager for Separation Systems in Dow Pacific.

He moved to Midland, Michigan, to serve as the Director of Marketing, Sales and Service for Liquid Separations in Dow North America. In 1995, he became the Global Business Director for Liquid Separations, and as part of that role, he was named President and CEO of FilmTec Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company.

In 1998, McIlvenny was named President and CEO of Hampshire Chemical Corp., a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, then based in Lexington, Massachusetts.

McIlvenny graduated from the University of Sydney with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.

   

Penny O'Neill Head, Customs and Excise Deloitte Australia
                                                 




Penny leads Deloitte's National Customs and Excise practice, providing specialist customs advice to both public and private sector organisations involved in importing and/or exporting goods.

Penny has more than 20 years experience in the customs industry, having commenced her career with the Australian Customs Service. Penny's core focus is now advising clients on:

1 project management relating to imported capital equipment
2 supply contract conditions relating to imported goods
3 tariff classification of goods
4 concessional entry of goods
5 valuation of imported goods
6 disputes relating to imported goods.

Over the last ten years Penny has obtained savings (of duty) for major projects in excess of $70 million through strategic planning and review of import schedules, and utilisation of concessional and other customs legislation to achieve optimal results for her clients.

Penny was involved for over 18 years in the training of Customs Brokers throughout Queensland. This education role included designing and teaching course material and also authoring course content for distance education customs students around the State.

Penny is a skilled negotiator and has frequently succeeded in winning difficult cases for her clients. She develops and implements complementary information systems to enable maximum savings to be obtained.

Brian has worked for 22 years as a professional economist within the Northern Territory. The last 8 years he has worked in various capacities which the Major Projects, Asian Relations and Trade Division of the Department of the Chief Minister and its predecessor organisations. This work has entailed research and analysis of the development potential for natural gas processing industries and liaison with proponents interested in the Northern Territory as a location for oil and gas related industries. Brian is currently one of the Northern Territory's representatives on the MCE/MCMPR Working Group on Natural Gas Supply and heads the Northern Territory's Task Force facilitating the proposed Darwin Clean Fuels Condensate Processing Plant..

Tony Regan is a Singapore based senior consultant with Nexant, a US chemicals, power, oil and gas consultancy. Tony focuses on the gas market in Asia Pacific.

Tony has extensive international oil and gas experience, much of it gained during 25 years with Shell International where he held a broad range of supply, logistics, trading and new business development roles. With Shell he developed several new businesses and held senior management positions in Europe and Asia. He has over 15 years experience in the Asia Pacific gas market and early accomplishments include the first spot sales of LNG in Asia when he placed cargoes from Australia and Brunei into Korea in 1993. He has been an oil and gas consultant since 1998.
 

   

Bridget Kelly Asia Pacific Technical Sector Leader for Sustainability KBR
                                                  




Beginning as a young civil engineer in residential land development in Calgary, Canada, Ms Kelly's career quickly grew to include environmental design, project management, building design efficiency and water sensitive urban design as she became a specialist in sustainable engineering and water management.
Since joining KBR Brisbane in 2003, she has been at the forefront of their sustainable development movement in the Asia Pacific region and acts as an advisor to KBR's global SD team, based in Houston.
Ms Kelly was offered KBR's inaugural position as Technical Sector Leader (TSL) for Sustainability in 2006 and has been called 'the most dynamic and influential TSL in Australia'. Her work with the sustainability sector includes development of internal sustainability training programs, design tools and resources, the formation of state sustainability committees and nationally employed Green office operating plans. She also coordinates sustainable development activities for large alliance projects around Australia.
In her ten year career, Ms Kelly has conducted a variety of seminars, university lectures, training courses and workshops in sustainable development, sustainable project management, and building design efficiency in both Canada and Australia.
She is an active member of the Australia Green Development Forum (AGDF) and is currently creating KBR's sustainability program with her associates at the Natural Edge Project, the internationally renowned leaders in sustainable development education and training.
 

   

Angus G. Walker - National Industry Leader Oil and Gas - Ernst & Young Australia
                                                 




Angus completed his Bachelor of Economics at Sydney's Macquarie University and also completed a Bachelor of Natural Resource Management at the University of New England, and has over 15 years of oil & gas and finance industry experience derived from a corporate background including Shell and Ernst & Young.

Angus represents Ernst & Young on a number of oil and gas industry associations including the Australian Energy Alliance, APPEA, and is also the Chairman of the APEC APGAS Steering Committee; an initiative endorsed by the 21 APEC Energy Ministers to develop and enhance the cross boarder gas trade in the Asia Pacific region. Angus was also jointly responsible for the formation of the Committee for Perth, and is the national leader of Ernst & Young's oil and gas industry sector

   

Bruce McCowan Managing Director Harrier Resourcing People
                                                 




Bruce is the Founder and Managing Director of Harrier Resourcing People. Having evolved from the Gerard Daniels People Resourcing Strategies group where Bruce was Managing Director, Harrier Resourcing People commercially separated from Gerard Daniels in January 2007 to form its own commercially independent entity.

Bruce re-joined Gerard Daniels in May 2006 from HBOS Australia. Bruce first commenced with the HBOS group (within BankWest) in 1989 in a broad HR and training role, before joining Gerard Daniels in 1995 as a Senior Consultant working within the professional services, health, information technology and resources sectors.

He then re-joined BankWest in 1999 as Head of People Development, before being appointed Chief People Officer. In July 2004 he was appointed Head of Human Resources with HBOS Australia which incorporates the business operations of BankWest, Capital Finance, BOS International and St Andrew's Insurance. In this position he was a direct report to the CEO and a member of the Executive Committee and was responsible for all aspects of the HR function including OSH, Employee Relations, Strategic Sourcing, Remuneration, HR Systems, HR Consulting, OD, Change Management, and Leadership Development.

Since the formation of HBOS Australia in 2004, Bruce lead the development of the sourcing strategy and was comprehensively involved with major recruitment strategy activities that saw personnel numbers grow 50% in 2 years. As a consequence, Bruce has developed a strategic understanding of sourcing strategies and running recruitment from an operational perspective.
