MEDIA RELEASE
SEAAOC 2008 focus as energy prices soar
SEAAOC, Northern Australia's largest and longest established
petroleum industry event assumes special significance this year as
world oil prices reach record levels.
The 2008 South East Asia Australia Offshore Conference will be held
in Darwin from 16-18 July, with the focus on key developments in the
Timor Sea, Browse Basin and North West Shelf.
These areas are vital to the development of oil and gas ventures,
with gas emerging as a powerful source of clean energy supply, as
well as wealth creation.
World oil prices have been hovering around $US100 a barrel with
experts expressing concern that weekly average OPEC oil prices,
which hit new highs during February, will continue to rise.
However, Australia is ideally located to supply clean and plentiful
natural gas to the Asia-Pacific region while offsetting greenhouse
emissions. Darwin is already taking advantage of gas from the
Bayu-Undan gas field supplied to a new $1.75 billion LNG plant via a
500km pipeline.
SEAAOC 2008 is regarded as a 'must' event for professionals in the
petroleum industry. Each year the conference attracts hundreds of
Australian and South East Asian offshore operators; oil and gas
exploration representatives; pipeline owners/operators; energy
generators, retailers and distributors; infrastructure and
engineering companies; contractors, government regulators and
representatives; and investors and consultants.
It will comprise case studies, keynote presentations, panel sessions
and interactive workshops led by highly respected oil and gas
industry leaders and speakers.
Speakers from APPEA, the Australian and Northern Territory
Governments, ConocoPhillips Australia, Chevron Australia and ENI
will review regional production and exploration, political issues,
technical developments, demand and supply.
Paul Henderson, Chief Minister of the Northern Territory Government
will launch SEAAOC 2008 on Thursday 17 July.
Other speakers will include Eros Agostinelli, Managing Director of
ENI Australia; Chris Hart, Managing Director of MEO Australia; Ian
Tchacos, Managing Director of Nexus Energy; Nick Davies, Managing
Director of Arrow Energy; Peter Botten, CEO of Oilsearch; as well as
representatives from ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil and Shell
Development Australia.
